Preschool Science Curriculum

Our Science Program welcomes children into a world where wonder feels close enough to touch. Curiosity becomes their guide as they explore the quiet mysteries woven through numbers, forces, plants, animals, and the living earth.
In our classrooms, seeds push gently toward the light, colours swirl into new stories, magnets pull with invisible strength, and weather drifts across the day with its shifting moods. Every “why” opens a new doorway. Every discovery lights a small spark. Every moment becomes part of a growing understanding of how the world works.
The children of today will make all the discoveries of tomorrow. All the discoveries of mankind will be known to them and they will improve what has been done and make fresh discoveries. They must make all the improvements in houses, cities, communication, methods of production, etc. that are to be made. The future generation must not only know how to do what we can teach them, they must be able to go a step further.
Grounded in the Montessori Curriculum, science unfolds through movement, touch, and imagination. Children learn how life grows, how animals adapt, how matter changes, and how the universe stretches far beyond what the eye can see. With seeds, magnets, colours, and solar system models in their hands, big ideas become real—something they can feel, explore, and remember.
Here, science is not a subject on a shelf. It is a living companion that nurtures confidence, invites wonder, and connects children to the world that surrounds them.
Areas of Scientific Exploration
Plants & Growing Things
Children plant seeds, tend gardens, and observe the miracle of growth firsthand. They learn about plant life cycles, what living things need to thrive, and develop a sense of responsibility and care for the natural world. Watching a tiny seed transform into a flowering plant teaches patience and reveals the wonder of life.
Animals & Life Sciences
From insects to mammals, children explore animal classifications, habitats, and behaviors. They learn to observe creatures with curiosity and respect, understanding the interconnections between all living things. Classroom visitors and nature walks bring these lessons to life in memorable ways.
Forces, Magnets & Motion
Children discover the invisible forces that shape our world. Through experiments with magnets, ramps, and simple machines, they explore concepts like push, pull, gravity, and momentum. These playful investigations build foundational understanding of physics in age-appropriate ways.
Weather & Earth Science
Daily weather observations become scientific practice. Children track patterns, learn about seasons, and explore the water cycle through hands-on activities. They develop vocabulary and understanding of the atmospheric phenomena that affect their daily lives.
Light, Colors & Senses
How do we see colors? Why do shadows change? Children explore the properties of light through prisms, mirrors, and color mixing. These explorations connect to sensorial development and artistic expression, integrating science with creativity.
